The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2014 is scheduled over a span of one months' time starting from February 2, 2014 till March 2, 2014.

GATE scores are used for admissions to Masters of Technology (M.Tech) programmes primarily for the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. Registrations for GATE 2014 has begun on Sept. 2 and finished on October 17, 2013.

Starting this year, all 22 papers of GATE will be conducted as a computer based test unlike previous years where the demanding courses were based under a pen-paper mode.

Moreover, the exam schedule is spanned over a months' time with tests conducted only over the weekends starting from February 2. Also, two sessions are conducted; one in the morning (9 am to 12 pm) and other at afternoon (2 pm to 5 pm). Here's the detailed schedule of GATE 2014:

  1. Morning Schedule (M): 9 am to 12 pm
  2. Afternoon Schedule (A): 2 pm to 5 pm

Note:

  1. Please note that the examination for CE, CS, EC, EE, ME will be held in multiple sessions and for all other papers the examination will be held in a single session.
  2. Candidates appearing for a paper that is scheduled in multi-session have NO CHOICE as far as the session is concerned. The session allotment will be done on a random basis by GATE 2014 Administration.
  3. No request for change of session shall be entertained at any point of of time under any circumstances.

The Notification for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) to be conducted in 2014 for the academic year 2014-16 is declared. Registrations for the exam will begin from September 2.

GATE has been one of the most popular and oldest exams in the education cirucit. GATE scores are used for admissions to Masters of Technology (M.Tech) programmes primarily for the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. Since last year, Public Sector Underatakings (PSUs) have started using GATE scores for their recruitment screening purpose due to which the demand for the exam has increased considerably.

Unlike last year, where GATE was held by Indian Instiute of Technoloy Bombay (IITB), GATE 2014 is conducted by Indian Institute of Technology of Kharagpur (IIT KGP).

Important Dates:

  1. Registrations for Online Applications on the GATE Website Begins: September 2
  2. Last Date to Register for the GATE: October 3
  3. Last date for the receipt of printed version of ONLINE Application at the respective zonal GATE Office: October 10
  4. Tentative Examination Dates for GATE 2014: Alternate Weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) between Feburary 1st, 2014 and March 2nd, 2014

 

Application Fee for GATE:

  1. Rs. 1500/- for General/OBC Male Candidates
  2. Rs. 750/- for Women Candidates and SC/ST/PD
  3. Fee can be paid onlline or via a challan through SBI or Syndicate Bank. Fee, once paid, not refundable.

 

Changes in GATE 2014:

All the 22 papers will be conducted online.

Till last year, exams for the popular streams - Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical, Production & Industrial and Instrumentation - were conducted using the pen-paper test. This year onwards, these streams will join the remanining 15 in the Computer Based Test.
